OBITUARY

MR HECTOR KEENAN

Batlow was  once again shocked to hear of the death of still yet another well known citizen, Mr. Hector James Keenan at the Batlow District Hospital last Friday night.

The late Mr. Keenan was a life-long resident of Batlow, having been born in the town sixty-. seven years ago.

In his early life he worked on the property of Mr. Ed. Herring and in later years purchased his own orchard, which he eventually sold to Mr. Bruce Wilkinson.

Following this sale, the late Mr. Keenan was employed on the staff of Mountain Maid Foods Co-op., where he worked in the warehouse section of the company until his death.

Mr. Keenan was a very keen and active tennis player for many years.  Following the formation of the Golf Club in the town area he became a golfing enthusiast, a sport he enjoyed right up to the time of his death.

The late Mr. Keenan not only enjoyed the game of golf, but-took an active interest in the well-being and upkeep of the course.  For his work in this field he was recently awarded Life Membership of the Club, an honour well and truly deserved.

Mr. Keenan also took a keen interest in all sports, especially Batlow football.

In 1934 he married Miss Thelma Nimmo in Wagga and from the marriage there were two children Marjorie (Mrs. Lew Pearce, Yaven Creek) and Cyril.

The Batlow Presbyterian Church was packed for the funeral service which was conducted by Rev. Mackenzie Baird of Wagga.

Members of the Batlow Golf Club formed a guard of honour at the church and at the graveside.

Pallbearers were Messrs. Cyril Keenan (son), Wis Keenan (brother), John Melrose (representing the Golf Club) and Lou Pearce (son-in-law).  Funeral arrangements were in the hands of H O Lyons and Sons, Tumbarumba.
